If you find a particularly strong ranger (main things to look at are ship armor, engine speed and defense field) then you might want to keep them around awhile longer, in which case putting more points into Leadership is a good idea.Įarly game: first thing to do is equip the items you chose at start, since they start in the Ranger Center (not on your ship). getting one point into this once you start fighting Dominators is useful so you can recruit rangers and force them to drop loot (only what's in their cargohold), but you really can't afford to be hiring suicidal lackeys otherwise. At that time it's probably fine to put a few levels into Commerce and Charisma. Don't worry about the other skills until you start getting a lot of exp and find yourself sitting around on 20k+ exp points. Skills: the top 3 skills are all extremely important, and you should strive to get these as high as possible. For equipment take Engine and Fragmentation Gun, and for skills take Mobility and Accuracy (these are the most costly skills so it's the best deal, they're also arguably your most important skills). I chose Peleng Mercenary and it worked out okay (and those are theoretically bad choices). Profession is another story, but they're probably all fine except for Pirate. Maloq is probably the most difficult, but their gear is at least cheap. Starting choices: I think any race is viable for this, so don't worry too much about that. I've made it to end-game in Nightmare (leaving Terron alive so there's at least some Dominators to fight) and thought I'd share some advice that should help anyone trying this out, or perhaps start a discussion about better methods of getting through it.
